چکیده

On the 26 December 2003 an earthquake, that measured 6.6 on the Richter scale, struck the town of Bam in Southern Iran. The European Space Agency (ESA) through its orbiting ENVISAT ASAR sensor managed to acquire 3 ascending and 3 descending image sets of the earthquake area, which were distributed, on request, free of charge to the research community world wide. A radar line-of-sight displacement map of the area was generated from the descending orbit image sets. The coseismic displacement estimated were in a region of subsidence, -34 cm, on the northeast end of the fault, a region of uplift, 28 cm, located to the southeast of the fault, and the main rupture having a length of about 6 km and runs along the Bam fault.

Interferometric Displacement and Damage Assessment for the 2003 Bam Earthquake

We demonstrate that interferometric observations of the Mw6.6 Bam (Iran) earthquake on December 26, 2003 acquired by Envisat-ASAR can not only map surface displacements and constrain fault models, but can also be used for damage mapping using the coherence magnitude. The Bam earthquake was the deadliest earthquake in 2003. An estimated 30000 people were killed and 85% of the buildings in the ar...

Bam earthquake: Surface deformation mea- surement using radar interferometry

On the 26th December 2003 an earthquake with MW=6.5 shook a large area of the Kerman Province in Iran. The epicenter of the devastating earthquake was located near the city of Bam. This paper described the application of differential synthetic aperture radar interferometry (D-INSAR) and ENVISAT ASAR data to map the coseismic surface deformation caused by the Bam earthquake including the interfe...

Retrieving three-dimensional coseismic displacements of the 2008 Gaize, Tibet earthquake from multi-path interferometric phase analysis

In this paper, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data from ENVISAT ASAR ascending, descending and ALOS PALSAR ascending orbits are collected to investigate the coseismic displacements of the Mw 6.4 earthquake occurred in Gaize, Tibet on January 9, 2008 and the Mw 5.9 aftershock on January 16, 2008. Two interferometric phase analysis techniques, i.e., D-InSAR and multi-aperture InSAR, are employed ...

Surface displacements and source parameters of the 2003 Bam (Iran) earthquake from Envisat advanced synthetic aperture radar imagery

[1] The Mw 6.6, 26 December 2003 Bam (Iran) earthquake was one of the first earthquakes for which Envisat advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR) data were available. Using interferograms and azimuth offsets from ascending and descending tracks, we construct a three-dimensional displacement field of the deformation due to the earthquake. Elastic dislocation modeling shows that the observed def...

3-D Coseismic Displacement Field of the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake Inferred from Satellite Radar Imagery

We use radar amplitude images acquired by the ENVISAT/ASAR sensor to measure the coseismic deformation of the 8 October 2005 Kashmir earthquake. We use the offset images to constrain the fault trace, which is in good agreement with the field investigations and the aftershock distribution. We infer a complete 3-D surface displacement field of the Kashmir earthquake using the offset measurements ...
